Which business degree is right for you?

While an undergraduate business administration or business management degree can open doors to a variety of career opportunities with excellent job prospects, an advanced business degree can lead to a career as an executive or manager in any industry, which is why these are among the most sought-after degrees today.

With so many options available, how do you know which business degree is right for you? In this blog post, we’ll look at the value of a BBA degree in South Africa, and where you can study for one.

BBA degree overview

A Bachelor of Business Administration degree (BBA) prepares students for a wide variety of careers in management. A BBA degree is awarded to students who complete a programme that focuses on business administration, including courses in business, marketing, economics, accounting, finance, technology, management, and leadership.

Programmes that lead to BBA degrees vary by business school, but most completed over a period of three years. Some put more emphasis on particular subjects in their curriculum than others.

Why study for a business administration degree?

Business administration degrees are designed for people who want to pursue careers in management. BBA graduates have a plethora of career options available to them, and can further their education with an advanced management degree.

Note that business administration degrees may also be referred to as business management, business administration, or management and marketing qualifications.

BBA programmes teach students how to write and speak well in the business arena. Why does this matter? Because this emphasis on soft skills lays foundations for the most important part of business: communication.

This qualification also helps prepare individuals to become entrepreneurial thinkers and decision-makers attuned to a dynamic environment, and builds practical and managerial skills, as well as equipping them to make sound business decisions.

Regenesys Business School offers a challenging and intense BBA programme specifically designed for learners who want to pursue management.

Bachelor of Business Administration curriculum

BBA programmes are designed to provide students with a broad understanding of business administration, and incorporate courses in business, marketing, economics, accounting, management and leadership.

Students at Regenesys have a choice of a dozen different subjects as core and elective modules, with core and major modules studies in first, second and third year, and electives taken in third year.

While you may choose to attend contact classes or take them online, all evaluations – both formative and summative – are completed online.

Admission requirements for a BBA degree

Most BBA programmes require students to have a matric or its equivalent, with English and maths, to qualify for admission. Some may require a student to submit SAT or ACT scores, letters of recommendation, and a written essay. Others may permit admission on the basis of recognition of previous learning or experience.

As admission requirements and curricula vary by school, you need to review each school’s website before applying to see whether their offerings suit your aspirations, and whether you meet their admission requirements.

It’s always best to make an informed choice!
