His speech set the tone with a sharp diagnosis of the mismatch between what schools prepare learners for and what the future demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cWe cannot prepare learners for yesterday\u2019s economy whilst tomorrow\u2019s opportunities pass them by.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chiloane highlighted Gauteng\u2019s innovative schools of specialisation, where learners specialise in fields such as ICT, engineering, and business. But he was clear: these schools are only as strong as the teachers who lead them. Policy and Qualifications (SAQA)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saqa.org.za\/board-management\/#:~:text=Chief%20Operating%20Officer,Dr%20Makhapa%20Makhafola\">Makhapa Makhafola<\/a><\/strong>, COO of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), pointed to the tension between the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.regenesys.net\/bachelor-of-education\">Bachelor of Education (BEd)<\/a><\/strong> and the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Teacher Professionalisation (SACE)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ei-ie.org\/en\/author\/1644:ella-mokgalane\">Ella Mokgalane<\/a><\/strong>, CEO of the South African Council for Educators (SACE), delivered one of the day\u2019s most arresting insights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cWe are sitting with about 871,753 STEM achievements in the last 10 years, where are they?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her question cut to the heart of South Africa\u2019s teacher attrition crisis. Despite producing thousands of graduates, the system loses many to other careers due to low pay, unsafe working conditions, or a lack of incentives. She argued that without making teaching \u201cattractive and innovative,\u201d reforms will remain symbolic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. The Ecosystem Approach (CSIR)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>From the research and innovation side, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/za.linkedin.com\/in\/kaven-naidoo-b2670434\">Dr Kaven Naidoo<\/a><\/strong>, Group Executive at the CSIR, stressed that solving education challenges requires an ecosystem approach:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cIt takes a village to solve the problems of the world.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He urged recognition of super teachers who go beyond the minimum, mentoring others and shaping culture in schools.
