Over the past three decades, we have made significant progress \u2013 enrolment rates among 7- to 15-year-olds have risen from 89% in 1995 to 99% in 2018, marking a major step towards universal access to basic education (<a href=\"https:\/\/cde.org.za\/the-silent-crisis-time-to-fix-south-africas-schools-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CDE, 2023<\/a>). These figures are not merely about test scores \u2013 they speak to a deep structural challenge in preparing our youth for a rapidly evolving, technology-driven world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adding to the complexity is the global teacher shortage crisis. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/teachertaskforce.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2024-04\/2349-23_GlobalReportonTeacher_WEB.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UNESCO\u2019s 2024 Global Report on Teachers<\/a>, the world will face a deficit of 44 million primary and secondary school teachers by 2030. Of these, an estimated 15 million will be needed in Sub-Saharan Africa alone. In South Africa, the shortage is especially acute in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, compounded by educator burnout, overcrowded classrooms, and declining teaching quality (CDE, 2023).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regenesys.net\/school-of-education\">Regenesys School of Education<\/a> steps in \u2013 not as a passive observer of the crisis, but as an active architect of solutions.
