{"id":144106,"date":"2022-12-01T10:43:31","date_gmt":"2022-12-01T05:13:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.regenesys.net\/reginsights\/?p=144106"},"modified":"2022-12-01T10:43:31","modified_gmt":"2022-12-01T05:13:31","slug":"muscle-and-joint-pain-what-are-the-different-types-of-pain-and-when-is-it-serious","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.regenesys.net\/reginsights\/muscle-and-joint-pain-what-are-the-different-types-of-pain-and-when-is-it-serious","title":{"rendered":"Muscle and Joint Pain \u2013 What Are the Different Types of Pain and When is it Serious?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-144109\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regenesys.net\/reginsights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image2.png\" alt=\"Muscle and Joint Pain\" width=\"650\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.regenesys.net\/reginsights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image2.png 650w, https:\/\/www.regenesys.net\/reginsights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image2-300x126.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This article will focus on pain associated with the musculoskeletal system such as exercise injuries, tension pain, joint complications and muscle imbalances.\u00a0 This may affect a host of systems within the body acutely or chronically \u2013 bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and even cartilage.\u00a0 We aim to briefly explore the causes and different tools available for pain management.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">47% of our population suffer from some form of muscle and joint pain.\u00a0 Of those individuals, 39-45% suffer from long lasting problems that require professional consultation.\u00a0 Therefore, the demand for skilled biomechanical testing and analysis is steadily increasing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Smoking has been identified as a risk factor for musculoskeletal pain \u2013 Other risk factors include:\u00a0 lower educational status, sedentary lifestyle, poor or limited social interactions, low income, insomnia or sleep disorders, anxiety, depression &amp; manual labour.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNiggles\u201d are early injuries that should not be ignored.\u00a0 It is important to know when we can treat it ourselves and when it may be an indication of something more serious.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most often, when injury pain lessens with movement or after being \u201cwarmed up\u201d this is a good sign.\u00a0 If pain is accompanied by weakness of the extremity, numbness that radiates down your arms or legs, or a burning sensation, it is considered a red flag.\u00a0 Expect more pain when exposed to colder temperatures, and try to differentiate between the different types of pain.\u00a0 As an example the type of pain experienced from muscle tension vs. nerve impingement is quite different and being able to distinguish is vital for the rehabilitative process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you suffer from stiffness or pain and it gets better, mostly you do not need to see a professional.\u00a0 But if it is something that does not get better despite remedies such as over the counter drugs or rehabilitative exercise, seek professional help.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also important to note that if you wish to manage pain in the long term, the answer is specific, rehabilitative exercise to correct the \u201croot cause\u201d.\u00a0 If your back or neck is affected by muscle tension, anti-inflammatories and pain medication will only treat the symptoms and not the root cause.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pain may be a deceptive method in diagnosing the root cause, if you experience lower back pain, yes you experience pain in that region but the root cause may be an anterior pelvic tilt, knotted muscles in the surrounding areas, a weak mid spinal region, muscle tension, muscle imbalances or a combination of them all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most often, causes of muscle pain are related to tension, muscle injury from exercise, physically demanding work, and muscle imbalances.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When your pain is not serious there are a few \u201ccommon sense\u201d therapies you can try in order to manage your pain:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stretching and exercising specific for muscle pain and stiffness together with a functional exercise routine to improve your posture;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A deep tissue or sports massage;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seek professional analysis and treatment if this does not help \u2013 make an appointment with your doctor or with Urban Wellbeing for an advanced biomechanical assessment;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maintaining a healthy body mass index \u2013 simply losing weight will drastically reduce the wear and tear of your joints and prevent excess wear of cartilage and the development of further imbalances.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cut down on sugary foods \u2013 avoiding high G.I. nutrients and refined sugars will lessen water retention, swelling of the joints and overall inflammation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Topical treatments such as ice packs and epsom salts in a warm bath;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In more severe cases, over the counter anti-inflammatories may be necessary.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-144110 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.regenesys.net\/reginsights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image1-300x140.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"140\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.regenesys.net\/reginsights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image1-300x140.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.regenesys.net\/reginsights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image1.jpg 555w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\nPlease contact us:<br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"mailto:info@urbanwellbeing.life\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">info@urbanwellbeing.life<\/span><\/a><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">www.urbanwellbeing.life<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\nDisclaimer &#8211;
